[mkgmap-dev] postcodes

From Mike Baggaley mike at tvage.co.uk on Mon Nov 16 10:33:32 GMT 2015

HI Gerd, using the default style and converting Staffordshire, England, the
following nodes, some postcodes work as expected, but the following ones
don't seem to work:

This one does not get added - I'm assuming this is because addr:street is
"Edgbaston drive" rather than "Edgbaston Drive". Should there be a case
insensitive comparison?
node 1913030629
addr:housenumber 54
addr:postcode ST4 8FJ
addr:street Edgbaston drive
building house

The postcode for this one does not get added, I assume because
addr:housenumber does not contain a single number. However, it seems to me
that both 248 and 254 could be added to the map.

node 2327523932
addr:housenumber 248-254
addr:postcode ST4 5RH
addr:street London Road
name Kraft Kabin
shop doityourself

This one does not get added, I assume because there is no addr:housenumber.
I have not checked to see what happens if I set the housenumber to 0. Does
the housenumber have to be non-zero?
node 1800286499
addr:housename Terrace Inn
addr:postcode ST4 5DG
addr:street Penkhull New Road
amenity pub
name Terrace Inn

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I fear I don't yet understand the problem.
You have a road without a housenumber element next to it and you want to
find it with the address search using the zip code ?

Hi Gerd, thanks for the reply. I have tried with the default style and it
does work, but as far as I can see, only for buildings with house numbers.
The buildings and places I am trying to find have names but not numbers. Is
there a way to get it to work without needing house numbers, which are
rarely present in OSM? I'm happy to just locate the street without a
specific building if I have a node with addr:street and addr:postcode.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

AFAIR the search for zip codes in Basecamp should work .
if you use your own style I'd suggest to try the default style.
If that doesn't work as well, and you think that the OSM is correct, please
post a link to your input file and I'll try to reproduce the problem.
If the problem is in your style, follow the hints at the bottom of this

Betreff: [mkgmap-dev] postcodes

Hi all, I currently have a list of postcodes added to my map, and can see
them in the Postal Code field of the Find Addresses option in basecamp, but
they are not linked to any roads/houses, so any address searches with
postcodes do not find anything. Can anyone please explain what I need to do
to get postcodes working properly? There is a brief mention of
mkgmap:postcode in the help, but it doesn't explain how to use it, and
anyway, I only have the centre points of the postcodes rather than their
enclosing areas.

Thanks,
Mike
