[mkgmap-dev] Help with registry for Basecamp

From Felix Hartmann extremecarver at gmail.com on Mon Feb 27 09:43:12 GMT 2023

If you use gmapi format there are however also many disadvantages. Cannot
quickly create a gmapsupp.img with mkgmap. Export of gmapsupp.img with
MapInstall is slower while some other things are just different. It's more
complicated to find bugs with multiple maps (if for example you do not move
them by hand but by Garmin Mapinstall - and then some maps are in user and
some in general folder. There are actually several folders that are
possible to be used).
I personally really prefer the old format and using registry vs and
info.xml and gmapi format. Best of both would be if you could .img format
together with info.xml instead of registry. Sadly that isn't possible.
