Just saw, my email program messed up the format, so here once more in
better readable form:

Hi Gerd,

sorry, i forgot to mention: I take the germany+.osm.xz (2.9GB) as input to
xz.exe and pipe the output (~35GB) to osmconvert.exe and convert the stdin
to germany+.osm.pbf. This file is about the same size around 1.9GB as the
extract i made myself.
