[mkgmap-dev] crude routing of my gpsmap 276Cx

From Gerd Petermann gpetermann_muenchen at hotmail.com on Thu Sep 26 10:13:26 BST 2019

Hi all,

in fact brouter proves I was wrong, the long route gets to "Rödderweg" using only legal roads. Puzzling...

Hi Ticker,

hm, yes, it seems impossible to reach the road "Rödderweg" without using a road tagged with access=destination or a highway=path or a highway=track. So, Garmin could be right to use the shorter route.

My problem is that I never see the long detour shown in Manfreds pictures using Garmin software. I can only reproduce it using brouter in car mode:
http://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=14/50.6935/6.4034/osm-mapnik-german_style&lonlats=6.425371,50.693678;6.43351,50.715885&profile=car-eco

Hi

I've found that my eTrex 30x, asking for a shortest distance
car/motorcycle route, will use a road that has mkgmap:car=no as an
intermediate part of of the route rather than a much longer route using
just valid roads. I've only noticed this where the non-car road is very
near the start/end of the route.

For the fastest time routing, I haven't seen this happen.

I'm not sure what the cut-offs are, but maybe its relate to the Garmin
logic that finds the nearest road to the start/end point and uses that,
regardless of the transport mode flags, to get to/from the full road
network.
