[mkgmap-dev] documentation improvement

From Mike Baggaley mike at tvage.co.uk on Wed Apr 8 13:08:30 BST 2020

Hi Ticker, sorry, I misread your previous email - I thought you were suggesting it should have been left out - I had included "Different GPS devices, MapSource, Basecamp and QLandkarte handle descriptions inconsistently. Some display the description when selecting maps, others use the family name" and thought this covered the point. However, I now realise you were referring to selection of tiles. I've added "or tiles" after "when selecting maps", and also replaced the arc second symbols. Is that better?

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike

I try to put in slight variants of the overall area description into:
 --family-name
 gmapsupp --description
 --series-name
and these occur in various places on devices and basecamp (--gmapi)
I set:
 --area-name
 --x-map-set-name
to variants of my name, and these also occur here and there.

My eTrex HCx allows me to disable/enable tiles within the gmapsupp on
an individual basis and this is the only use I've ever seen of the tile
description, which is why I think a mention of it should be left in
