[mkgmap-dev] Map visibility in Basecamp only with large scale

From Geoff Sherlock geoffrey_sherlock at btinternet.com on Thu Jul 4 05:32:24 BST 2013

Hi,

I suspect you have set your highest level at too high a resolution. My lowest resolution (5:16 in the options style file) seems to show information when zoomed far out. Obviously you need to show symbols at that level/resolution as well (though far fewer the the higher resolution such as motorways/railways).

Playing with the levels->resolution should help anyway.

Geoff.

Subject: [mkgmap-dev] Map visibility in Basecamp only with large scale

Hi there,

I'm creating my own maps for my Garmin device. The maps are really working great on my device. Thanks to all for your work to mkgmap. Without that I wouldn't be able to create maps.

But last weekend I came across an issue with integrating the maps to Garmin Basecamp.

My map works in basecamp, but I have to switch to a large scale (30 km) to get the map visible. Detail level is set to medium. Of course I can switch the detail level to the highest level and then the map is visible at scale 200km.
But when I started to work with OSM and Garmin maps I tried the All-In-One map of Germany. And this map gets visible at scale 200km with detail level medium. Why my map doesn't?

I have tried different versions of mkgmap starting with r2520 to r2654. No difference.
Currently I have no idea where I should start searching.
Has somebody here an idea what could be the difference with my map and the AIO map?

Many thanks,
TheSurveyor / Gerd
