[mkgmap-dev] TYP/Style files

From Kristoffer Malmström mitod1 at gmail.com on Wed Jul 3 22:31:50 BST 2013

Hi,
i'm very new to this list (just joined) and i have been searching around
how to easy compile TYP/style files to use with my osm garmin maps.

I can't find any good guide pages or anything about this, only a few
tools to use.

Is there a tool that i can use to create a style package with all the
files (info, lines, options, overlays, points, polygons, relations,
version) or is the only way to create them manually and put everything
manually in them?

To create TYP files i find TYPViewer and
http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi very useful, but i can't
find out how to get everything working on the map in either BaseCamp or
in the GPS.
I have created a TYP file that has a lot of stuff, but seems like Garmin
BaseCamp and GPS doesn't agree with me on some of the "Line"/"Way" stuff
i've added.
Stuff like pier, cycleway, footpath and private roads looks all the same
for me, but they shouldn't. I have no idea how to fix this.

I don't really understand if there is a difference between style
packages and TYP files.

/ Kristoffer
