[mkgmap-dev] Various routing problems.

From Kurt Roeckx kurt at roeckx.be on Sun Jan 2 19:17:22 GMT 2011

Hi,

I've been using my GPS to give me driving instructions to see
what's it's saying. It has often giving me strange results,
but alot of the time this was caused my map errors. I think
I've fixed all map related errors for the route I did a few days
ago, but I still got some strange results.

One of the things I sometimes see is that it's telling me to exit
(or turn?) to the left or right while the road goes straight on.
I think that one of such places is even at a place just after the
intersection where the mapping of the road changes from
highway=primary to highway=primary+cycleway=track.  (At node
130563984). I got that same behaviour various times on that same
road, but I'm not really sure about the other places. But that
road changes various times to have a cycleway or not.

On the same road it also decided to just recalculate the route
at some point, like I wasn't following the route. I'm not sure
why or where exactly, but it's close to node 130563935. It did
that to me in both direction. And the second time it seems to
give me some strange directions that I didn't have time to look
at them at that moment.

Then driving along on the same road it several times gave me
instructions to go from the cycleway to the road, for instance
at node 239950950. It was thinking that I was on the cycleway
and showed me to go to road. Just after the intersection it
acted like I didn't follow it's instructions and recalculated
the route doing the same on the next intersection.

All those seem to be related to cycleways.

This was all with data from a few days ago, made with:
java -jar ../../mkgmap-r1760/mkgmap.jar --gmapsupp --description="Belgium OSM" --country-name="Belgium" --country-abbr="BE" --merge-lines --route --drive-on-right --check-roundabout-flares --adjust-turn-headings --add-pois-to-areas --make-cycleways *.osm.gz
