[mkgmap-dev] Feature Request: mkgmap able to create gmap archive (BaseCamp)

From Patrik Brunner patrik.brunner at gmx.net on Sat Dec 3 15:07:26 GMT 2016

Yes I know, on each platform there are different options.... it's not
the question about how to convert it on the different platforms, there
are on each platform several options, but most of the times you have to
choose different ways to go, depending on the platform.

There's even a cli version of the JaVaWa MapConverter, able to run on
Windows, Mac and linux.... but unfortunately those executables are only
32bit applications on linux, which is quite a heavy restriction nowadays
too.

There are also many several ways to create gmapsupp files with external
tools (JaVaWa, gmaptool, just to mention a few) but nevertheless mkgmap
supports it natively too.

Mkgmap is THE tool for the osm map creation for Garmin, that's why I'm
wondering/asking/requesting if it's possible that THE tool can support
the nowadays very common GMAP typ maps also natively... even if there
are several othere ways to do that, different unfortunately on each OS.

Cheers
Patrik
