No the level option is not used for mp files.

The mp file contains its own level options and
these would normally be edited instead.
For example:

Level0=23
Level1=21
Level2=19
Level3=18
Level4=17
Zoom0=0
Zoom1=1
Zoom2=2
Zoom3=3
Zoom4=4
